Cold Hardy Gardenia With Plenty of Blooms

Enjoy the heavy fragrance and beauty of delicate white blooms. The Daisy Gardenia is an evergreen shrub with plenty of glossy and lush foliage. The flat-faced flowers have a daisy-like shape and small yellow decorative centers. A medium-sized shrub, the Daisy Gardenia has a compact, bushy shape.

Compared to other gardenias, the Daisy Gardenia can be grown further north and is quite hardy. It can tolerate heat but also can handle shade. It also blooms heavier than other gardenias, providing plenty of blooms from late spring through to early fall.

The Daisy Gardenia also works well in containers, especially when placed in outdoor living spaces where the fragrance can be enjoyed. They also work wonderfully as landscape beds, foundation plantings, and as decorative hedges. You can even cut the flowers and bring their lovely fragrance indoors!

Add this beautiful shrub to your garden this season. Order your own Daisy Gardenia today!

Planting & Care

Planting:  Plant in an area with well-draining but moist soil. Plant Daisy Gardenias in full sun to light shade. Shade is especially good during the hotter months of the year to prevent the foliage from scorching and buds from falling off. In cooler areas, full sun is best, but in hotter areas, you may want to ensure the shrub has shade from the hot afternoon sun.

When planting, dig a hole twice the size of the root ball. Place the plant in the center, gently holding the main stem upright and straight while you backfill the soil. Top off the plant with a layer of mulch to conserve moisture and give it a good watering.

*Note that gardenias can be poisonous to pets if ingested.

Watering: Daisy Gardenias have average watering needs. Water once a week in the first year (twice when it’s especially hot). After established, only water during periods of drought.

Fertilizing: Fertilize in the spring with a slow-release fertilizer.

Pruning: Prune in late fall when the shrub has gone dormant. Prune any dead and diseased branches, as well as branches to promote a bushy shape. To encourage flowering, you can remove dead flowers by clipping the flower just above the node.
