Planting & Care
1. Planting: When planting, space plants far enough apart for growth. This shrub can thrive in various soil types, except for those that remain consistently wet. To achieve the best fall color, it is ideal to position the shrub in a location that receives full sun or around 6 to 8 hours of sunlight daily. Plants that are placed in overly shaded areas will change color much later in the fall and may lose their leaves before they can turn bright red. The plant is adaptable to different pH levels.
2. Watering: The water preference ranges from dry to moderate, with a preference for medium moisture levels.
3. Fertilizing: In early spring, apply a slow-release fertilizer designed for trees and shrubs, following the recommended rate on the label. This will help promote strong growth. Since burning bushes are heavy feeders, if the leaves are less than 3-4 inches and light green, increase the fertilizer amount.
4. Pruning: Light pruning is beneficial for this plant, but thick stems heal slowly if cut. Shape it in early spring, avoiding thick stems unless removing them completely.
