An Ideal Thuja for Accents and Small Gardens

With a sprinkle of Sugar and Spice, you’ll have beautiful green color all year long. The Sugar and Spice™ Thuja has bright green, feather-like evergreen foliage and orange-brown stems. When clipped, the leaves emit a pleasant scent.

The growth of the Sugar and Spice™ Thuja is dense and vertical, creating a naturally conical shape ideal for small privacy screens and vertical emphasis. It’s well suited for hedges, xeriscaping, rock gardens, and conifer gardens, or in containers to accent entryways.

Looking for a low-maintenance plant? The Sugar and Spice™ Thuja is pest-resistant and heat-tolerant and requires no pruning to maintain its shape. Compared to other thujas, the Sugar and Spice™ is ideal for smaller spaces, growing a maximum of 12 ft. high and 4 ft. wide.

Add some Sugar and Spice to your yard! Order your Sugar and Spice™ Thuja online and have it delivered straight to your door.

Planting & Care

Planting:  Plant your Sugar and Spice ™ Thuja in an area that receives full sunlight and has well-draining soil. It can tolerate partial shade, but full sun is best. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and the same height of the container. Placed your thuja in the center, backfilling the soil and making sure the plant stands straight. Add a layer of mulch around the base of the shrub to conserve moisture.

If you’re making a hedge or privacy screen, space each thuja 2.5 ft. apart. This will result in a solid hedge as the shrub grows.

Watering:  After planting, thoroughly water your new thuja. In the first 1-2 months, while the plant is getting established, water once a week (water twice a week during hot conditions).

After one season, your thuja doesn’t require any supplemental watering unless it’s in a container or experiencing drought-like conditions.

Fertilizing: Support growth by adding an all-purpose evergreen tree and shrub fertilizer beginning in the spring.

Pruning: The Sugar and Spice doesn’t require any additional pruning to maintain its shape. Trim away any dead or diseased branches as necessary.
