About Proven Winners®: Proven Winners® ColorChoice Shrubs offers flowering shrubs, evergreens, and trees that have been tested for eight to ten years to ensure they outperform conventional varieties. That means bigger flowers, more colorful foliage, reblooming, disease resistance, new habits, or anything that makes them more beautiful and easier to grow in your landscape or garden.
Planting: Choose a location with well-drained, moist soil and full sun to partial shade. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and slightly shallower than its height. Place the arborvitae in the hole so the top of the root ball is level with the ground. Backfill with soil, gently tamping down to remove air pockets. Add a 2-3" layer of mulch around the base, keeping it a few inches away from the trunk to prevent rot.
Watering: Water thoroughly after planting to help the roots establish. Maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry spells, by providing 1-2 inches of water per week. Once established, the plant is more drought-tolerant but benefits from regular moisture.
Fertilizing: Feed fertilizer in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer designed for evergreens. Follow package instructions for application.
Pruning: This shrub naturally maintains its globe-like shape with little to no pruning!
