Low-Maintenance Evergreen Shrub Perfect for Privacy Hedges

Add the Clusia to your yard to create your own privacy hedge! This beautiful evergreen shrub is easy to grow and lets you create a natural, low-maintenance fence around your yard.

Also known as the Autograph Tree, this plant has thick, leathery leaves with a teardrop shape for a stunning display. Enjoy evergreen colors throughout the year, and in summer, you'll get pale pink flowers to accent this shrub.

Plus, this plant is resistant to pests and diseases and can withstand droughts and salt, making them perfect for hot and seaside climates. This is the perfect shrub for beginners and green thumbs alike looking to liven up their yard with vibrant hues.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant your clusia in full sun to part shade, in a spot with 4-8 hours of sunlight per day, in well-draining soil. For a privacy hedge, plant your clusia about 5 feet apart. Clusia will also thrive in a pot, either indoors or on a patio.

2. Watering: Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top two inches of soil are dry. Clusia can endure periods of less frequent watering, although regular irrigation will help them grow fuller. They like humidity, so mist them regularly if kept indoors with air conditioning.

3. Fertilizing:  Use a balanced fertilizer 3 times a year in spring, summer, and fall.

4. Pruning: You can prune once in spring and let your clusia grow naturally, or trim it more frequently to maintain its shape. Avoid cutting through foliage and only trim branches.
